Okonjo-Iweala Sends Appreciative Message To President Buhari As United States Endorses Her For WTO Director-General

The New United States Government (Joe Biden And Kamala Harris) has now endorsed Former Nigeria Ex-Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the office of the Director-General of the WTO (World Trade Organization). With that, Ngozi has decided to share some appreciation to Buhari.

Okonjo-Iweala is now set to be the first woman, first African, and the first black woman to be the head of the World Trade Organization. The World Trade Organization is an organization that has been in its existence for over 26 years, and once Okonjo Iweala gets the Position for its Director-General, she would be the first black woman, and African, and also the first woman to rule that position.

Recall back in October 2020 while Donald Trump was still the President of the United States Of America. The Donald Trump administration had blocked Okonjo Iweala’s endorsement whereby they claimed that she lacks real trade experience. The Trump’s administration blocked her endorsement after 110 out of 164 WTO-member countries elected Okonjo-Iweala to lead the World Trade Organization

With that, a statement recently erupted from the Office of the US Trade Representative which explains the whole issue. They disclosed that the Biden-Harris administration is now in full support to have Okonjo-Iweala as the upcoming Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

The statement also gave out some concrete reasons why they love to have Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General of WTO. The statement says,

The United States takes note of today’s decision by the Republic of Korea’s Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee to withdraw her candidacy for Director-General of the World Trade Organization The Biden-Harris Administration is pleased to express its strong support for the candidacy of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General of the WTO.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala brings a wealth of knowledge in economics and international diplomacy from her 25 years with the World Bank and two terms as Nigerian Finance Minister. She is widely respected for her effective leadership and has proven experience managing large international organization with a diverse membership

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has now expressed her appreciation to Nigerians, Americans, her family, her friends, and President Buhari for the support they have given her. She expressed this appreciation in one of her latest tweets.

In her words, she wrote,

“Grateful for the expression of support from the US today for Director-General of The World Trade Organization. Congratulations to Madam Yoo of Rep. Korea for a hard-fought campaign.

“Thank you, President Muhammadu Buhari and all Nigerians for your unflinching support. Thank you, friends. Love to my family. Glory to God.”

Finally, a lot of Nigerians, blacks, Africans, Women, and many more would surely love the fact that a Nigerian black woman would soon be representing the World as Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
