President Muhammadu Buhari today approved the extension of the NIN/SIM linking exercise (Link NIN with SIM Cards). This comes after protests and pressures from the citizens of Nigeria who complained of how hard it is to get the National ID Card in various centers in Nigeria.
Recall back in December when the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed telecommunications operators to deactivate all SIM Cards not registered and linked with the NIN by the end of the year 2020.
With that, it was still extended for subscribers with NIN till January 19, and subscribers without NIN till February 9, due to the pressure from the citizens of Nigeria.
Now, the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has now approved the extension of the deadline to Link NIN with SIM. The deadline which was supposed to be on January 19, 2021, has now been extended to February 9, 2021.
This information was released to Nigerians according to the information of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators of Nigeria (ALTON).
According to a statement that ALTON released on Wednesday, January 20, it states,
“To ensure that we utilize the extension period judiciously, we urge all telecom subscribers who have a NIN to link it to their SIM Cards through available channels as soon as possible.
“Those yet to enroll are advised to visit www.nimc.gov.ng for a list of enrolment centers close to them.
In conclusion, it’s good news for Nigerians as no sim cards without the linking of NIN would be deactivated till January 9th, 2021. What are your thoughts on this? Please do well to drop your comments below.
