Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel has been quizzed about the possibility of reviving his interest in Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan was wanted by Tuchel in the summer of 2020 when he was linked with a move away from Barcelona. With reports of Ronald Koeman not wanting the Uruguayan in Barcelona, Suarez was eventually sold to Atletico Madrid and has been doing well so far at the club and is a top contender for the Pichichi award in La Liga.
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea is now set to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday and Tuchel has praised the Uruguayan striker and admitted to trying to sign him while he was at Paris Saint-Germain.
“It was a possibility. We heard the rumors he was about to leave Barcelona, and who cannot be interested in signing one of the best strikers in world football history and the present?
We tried out luck, we did not make it. He decided to stay in Spain, move to Atletico, and has proven his quality,” Thomas Tuchel said.
When Tuchel was asked about the possibility of Suarez joining Chelsea, he said;
“He is under contract now at Atletico Madrid and it’s not worth thinking about it. I haven’t and the possibility is high we won’t think about it.”
Chelsea has spent money on buying strikers like Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud as they continue to experience life at Stamford Bridge although it may be argued that they have not hit their full stride at the club yet.
