Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that leaving out N’Golo Kante against Arsenal was due to an injury. Chelsea lost 1-0 against Arsenal on Wednesday evening as a first-half goal from Emile Smith-Rowe was enough to ensure the Gunners went home with the three points.
However, Chelsea played without many of their key players and while some of them were due to the coach’s decision, Kante’s exclusion was not. The Blues missed the energy and intensity from the midfield that Kante offers and they were also without the services of Mateo Kovacic.
Thomas Tuchel said on Kante’s injury;
“N’Golo was left out due to pain management. He has pains in the Achilles [tendon] and he suffers from that, so there was no chance that he could play against Arsenal.
“We miss Kovacic, we didn’t have N’Golo on the bench. This is a huge blow for is in terms of intensity and attitude.”
N’Golo Kante has been very crucial for Chelsea before suffering his latest injury as his impressive performances against Real Madrid led to him winning the man-of-the-match awards in both legs against the Spanish giants. Kante’s injury also means he is a huge doubt for Chelsea’s FA Cup final match against Leicester City during the weekend.
