Luis Suarez continued his impressive form for Atletico Madrid as he netted a double to secure help Atletico Madrid win against Cadiz. Suarez’s double means he has now scored 14 goals in 16 La Liga appearances for Atletico Madrid since his summer move from Barcelona.
Alvaro Negredo scored two goals in each half to give Cadiz a fighting chance at getting at least a point from the match but Atletico’s attack was too much for Cadiz to deal with. Saul Niguez and Koke also scored a goal each to claim the three points for Atletico Madrid.
The victory now means that Atletico is strong favorites to be crowned as La Liga champions as they now sit 10 points clear of Real Madrid who is in second place. Atletico Madrid also has a game in hand with second-placed Real Madrid.
Real Madrid had a chance to reduce the gap against Atletico at the top of La Liga but squandered the chance as they lost at home to Levante in a game that saw the defending champions reduced to 10 men.
Barcelona now has a chance to go level on points with Real Madrid and climb to the second position on goals difference when they face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday evening. Barcelona would be seeking revenge after falling to an extra-time winner in the Super Cup final against Athletic Bilbao.
