Eric Garcia’s potential transfer to Barcelona has been gaining a lot of reactions as the Catalan club has been unable to secure the signing of the former La Masia talent so far.
Garcia’s contract is due to expire this summer and he is set to join Barcelona on a free transfer during the summer. Garcia left Barcelona in 2017 to Manchester City but is now eager to return to his boyhood club to stake his claim.
Barcelona is currently a president as the club is only managed by an interim president and this has made the signing of Garcia very difficult. Also, the financial situation at the club is very complicated.
Presidential candidates, Joan Laporta and Toni Freixa prefer Eric Garcia to join the club in the summer when he would arrive without any money paid to Manchester City. However, presidential candidate Victor Font sees it necessary that he is signed in the January transfer window.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola expressed frustration at the constant rumors about Garcia leaving the club.
“I don’t want to talk anymore about this issue. The market closes soon and for now, he is our footballer and an exceptional boy. Nothing else,” Pep Guardiola.
The long-term injury to Barcelona’s center-back Gerard Pique coupled with the poor form of average performances of Clement Lenglet has called for the need to sign a new center-back. Barcelona’s coach, Ronald Koeman has stressed the need for a new center-back but stated that he understands the complicated financial situation of the club.
