The registration for the National Identification Number (NIN) is what has been on in Nigeria for a long time now. With that, the FG has made it compulsory for all Nigerians who have a Sim Card to register for the National Identification Number, otherwise, they get their Sim Cards blocked.
With that, a lot of people have started the race to get their own National Identification Number, but the issue is the Crowd in these NIMC registration centers are just too massive.
From some of the reports we assembled, the reports we have assembled from other sources, it looks like the FG are not ready to postpone the linking of NIN numbers to Sim Cards.
Recall back then on December 15, 2020, when the Federal Government announced that all Sim Cards without the registration of Valid NIN would be blocked on the 30th of December, 2020. But fortunately, they postponed it again to January 19, 2021. The federal government also did well and gave more than 6 weeks extension for subscribers without the NIN which would expire on February 9, 2021.
With this now, we learned from Punch that about 43 million National Identity numbers have been submitted by telecommunication companies to the National Identity Management Commission for verification in order to have them registered with their respective subscriber Identification modules.
Currently, the NIMC has refused to say anything after several urges from Nigerians to still postpone the deadline for the registration of valid NIN to Sim Cards.
Today, we learned from the Punch that there was a tweet from the NIMC which says, “By order of the Federal Government, today is given as last chance to register your NIMC or face the wrath of what comes next.”
In conclusion, there are still different pressure on the Federal Government and NIMC to postpone the deadline date of the linking of NIN Numbers to various telecommunication networks, what are your thoughts on this? Please drop your comments below.
