Ilkay Gundogan has been a huge revelation for Guardiola’s Manchester City this season as he has been performing very well. Guardiola’s tactics seem to be benefiting him very well as he gets to arrive in the right spaces and finish off chances. He also seems to be more involved in the overall play of Manchester City compared to previous seasons.
The German received the award for the Premier League’s best player in January after scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist. According to the German, his hunger to arrive into tight spaces in the penalty box increased compared to the previous seasons and this is why his form improved.
“I don’t know what’s made the difference, I’m playing in a more offensive role, maybe my hunger to arrive in the right spaces, the right moments, it increased compared to the other seasons.
I try to be there to help my team as much as possible, not just offensively but defensively I try to win duels, block shots, wherever I’m needed.
Manchester City is now favorites to win the Premier League this season after enduring a shaky start to the season. Pep Guardiola’s team is now on a 15-game winning streak as their recent 4-1 victory over title holders Liverpool shows how dominant they are.
