Manchester United lost three points in their bid to claim the Premier League title after losing 2-1 to Sheffield United. Kean Bryan scored the first goal of the game before Harry Maguire equalized in the second half. A 74th-minute goal from Oliver Burke sealed the victory for Sheffield United to the disappointment of the Red Devils’ fans.
However, Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Axel Tuanzebe were victims of racial abuse after the match against Sheffield. The pair was racially abused on their Instagram accounts.
Manchester United issued a statement condemning the act aimed at Martial and Tuanzebe.
Part of the statement reads;
“Everyone at Manchester United is disgusted by the racial abuse issued received by players via social media after last night’s game. We utterly condemn it and it is encouraging to see other fans condemn this on social media also.
“Manchester United has zero-tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination and a long-standing commitment to campaigning against it through our All Red All Equal initiative.”
The issue of racism is a huge problem that destroys the beauty of the game and it is not encouraged in any manner.
