Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard has been ruled out of featuring in the El Clasico as it appears he has not fully recovered from the injury he has been suffering for almost one month. Hazard has returned to individual training but the game against Barcelona comes too early for the Belgian international. This means Hazard is yet to feature in an El Clasico game since he joined Real Madrid in 2019.
However, Barcelona receives good news as Gerard Pique has returned to the squad list to travel to Madrid. The Spanish International has been suffering from a knee injury for most of the season but is now in contention to feature in the El Clasico.
When Ronald Koeman was asked during the pre-match interview whether Gerard Pique would play if he is not fully fit, he said; “It depends on the moment of the game. Any player has to be in perfect physical and mental condition but there are players who by personality and being captain are important. My job is to look out for the best 11 players to achieve an important result.”
Barcelona would also be without Ansu Fati and Philippe Coutinho who have both been out of action for a long time due to knee injuries. Neto is also ruled out of playing in the El Clasico after featuring in the earlier match against the Spanish champions this season.
Real Madrid would miss out on the services of Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal due to injury. Raphael Varane is also out of the match after he was confirmed to have tested positive to Covid-19.
