Portuguese international, Cristiano Ronaldo has edged Lionel Messi to be crowned the best player of the 21st century. The award was officially crowned to Ronaldo by the Dubai’s Globe Soccer Awards. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been ruling the world of football in recent years as they have 11 Balon D’or between them.
Although many may have expected a closer margin, Ronaldo won the award with 33% of the votes, while Messi had 20% of the votes. Lionel Messi may not worry much about this as he recently reached a milestone that would stay in the history books. He broke the record of Brazilian great, Pele, of becoming the player with the most goals scored for a single club after scoring this 644th goal for Barcelona against Real Valladolid.
The Dubai Globe Soccer Award has the support of the Dubai Sports Council and is powered by car manufacturer Audi. This becomes another addition to the enormous individual award won by Cristiano Ronaldo.
