Chelsea would be looking to advance to the final of the Champions League as they face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the semifinals of the Champions League next season. They have been very impressive in the Champions League especially under Thomas Tuchel as they have defeated Atletico Madrid and Porto in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
However, the Blues are likely to miss superstar Mateo Kovacic due to a hamstring injury. Kovacic is a very important piece in Thomas Tuchel’s squad as his ability to dominate play and act as a workhouse is unrivaled. Chelsea has been struggling in their latest fixtures without the holding midfielder as they have recorded only one victory in their last three matches.
Thomas Tuchel has also confirmed that Kovacic is still injured and not fit to play yet. He said;
“The team news Is there is no news. Mateo Kovacic is still out but everyone else is still available.”
About the return date of Kovacic, The former PSG manager said;
“I personally think we can hope for Fulham but don’t take it for granted or as medical advice, that’s just my personal opinion. Maybe the physios and doctors would kill me for that but I think it’s maybe possible to be back again between the Madrid games.”
As a result of the absence of Kovacic, Mason Mount has been noticeably playing slightly deeper than normal and one would argue that this has been reducing his performances. With the crucial encounter against Real Madrid on the way, Chelsea would need all their players fit for the clash.
