It’s no longer news that there is an ongoing ASUU strike in Universities in Nigeria. This has caused a lot of disasters as Government University Students are all at home expecting when ASUU would call off the strike. Right now, the strike has been on for over eight months, and no solutions yet.
Recall Last Week, the Federal Government of Nigeria pledged to pay the sum of 40 Billion Naira as the Earned Allowance and 30 Billion Naira for the revitalization of the university system which makes the total payment the sum of 70 Billion Naira. Last week also, the FG (Federal Government) also accepted the demand by ASUU that they are exempted from the integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System pending the approval of their proposed payment system. With that, the ASUU President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi said this as seen below in a Conversation with NewsMen.
He said, “We have what the government is offering and have transmitted the same to our members nationwide and we are consulting on what the next line of action will be. You know a tree does not make a forest and our union is democratic in nature and practice. As for how long the consultation would take, I cannot say, but it may go beyond this week. Whatever we decide on is definitely going to be in the national interest, the interest of our children, the interest of our members, and the good of all.”
In conclusion, the President of ASUU has spoken and they are consulting on what the next line of action will be. What do you think about this statement of ASUU? Please let us know in the comment section below.
